| The start was given on 1st January 1952, when a Scientific-editing and Map-assembling department at the Chief Geodesy and Cartography Administration was established. In 1953 it was transformed into a design organization Kartproekt, which till 1971 realizes editing, assembling and drawing up of varying cartographic production. The pre-printing work and the printing process itself were carried out at Map factory, another organization, residing in the same building. In mid-1971 both organizations combine to form a Comprehensive institute for cartographic research and design.
